A brief history

Six decades
on the green.

What began with one green grew into a lasting Richmond institution, shaped by its members and supported by the wider community.

  1. The club is founded

Richmond Lawn Bowling Club is established and officially registered.

  2. Our first green opens

The original south green officially opens on May 11.

  3. A clubhouse of our own

Members hold their first meeting in the new clubhouse on September 6.

  4. The north green arrives

After an application in 1989, the club’s second green officially opens on September 15.

  5. A new playing surface

Both greens are converted to artificial turf and officially opened on July 10 with members and community leaders in attendance.

  6. The greens are renewed

The carpets and underlayers are replaced after years of heavy play.

  7. Our new clubhouse opens

The new clubhouse building is completed and officially opened, beginning an exciting new chapter for the club.
